We often hear of both good things and bad things in relation to our biking experiences.  Some of these stories we feel are of interest to our fellow motorcycle enthusiasts and this is how this page came to be.  These stories are written and submitted by our members for posting on the site.  Once posted the member is free to contact the involved party and let them know that their story - good or bad - is posted here for the entire world to read about.  If the story is a bad we can only hope that they will mend their ways or at least that other motorcyclists will be aware.  If the stories are good these people and/or business involved should get a pat on the back.

GOOD NEWS / BAD NEWS

The first good news part of this tale is that after a thorough motorcycle training course at Georgian College and getting my motorcycle license back, I purchased a 1998 Honda Shadow 1100 from Northern MotorSports.  They reside at 160 Artesian Industrial Parkway at the top end of Bradford, Ontario.  www.northernmotorsports.com

I then, of course, joined the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club Chapter  VIII.  Have been on several wonderful rides and ate with them (goes without saying).

My bride, Veronika, and I have been out on a few long distance rides as well.  We visited some friends in the Hay Bay, Bay of Quinte area.  My chum out there has ridden motorcycles and been a professional race car driver for years.  This is the start of the bad news.  He pointed out a potential problem with my motorcycle in the darkening of my exhaust pipes.  He said that the installation of straight pipes on the motorcycle without adjustments would cause this to occur.

On our return I asked the mechanics at Northern MotorSports to advise on the problem.  All four plugs were examined and a problem was detected. The mechanics agreed that the installation by the previous owner of straight pipes without adjustment to the carburetors was the problem.  There was also a build up of carbon at the exhaust valves.  After a delay from the end of July until mid September, the motorcycle was repaired. The delay was caused by misinformation between the parts manager at Northern and the Honda dealership they purchase their parts through.

Back to the good news.  When I called for an estimate of the repairs and parts I was advised by the owners of Northern MotorSports that this would all be covered off by them.  No cost to me.  True to their word, I picked up my motorcycle, complete with factory pipes, today.  The machine runs as smooth or smoother than ever.  The mechanic, Brian, has asked that I keep in touch with him over the next short time to ensure proper running and clean motor oil.  This I will do.

For all the horror stories out there I thought a good news episode was in order.  It is certainly nice to deal with a business whose staff is honest.
